The concept of digital game-based learning (DGBL) embraces new realities and adapts teaching methods to the needs of a new generation. This paper examines the didactic potential of computer games and simulations created by Czech developers based on key events in Czech history (Kingdom Come: Deliverance, 1428: Shadows over Silesia, Československo 38–89) and demonstrates how the basic principles of Jan Amos Komensky (learning through play, an activity-based approach, the need for "visuality," and positive student motivation) are being implemented in the 21st century. The results of the research may be useful for specialists in intercultural communication, linguistics and history.
