Аннотация:Distribution, plumages and size variation of the Pallas’s Rosefinch. – Loskot V.М., Red’kin Ya.A., Nechaev V.А.
Data on the breeding places and habitats of species on mainland (67 points), Shantar Islands and northern Sakhalin are summarized; map of breeding, migrating and wintering areas is given. Birds find optimal nesting conditions in plain and mountain light forests of Larix dahurica and L. sibirica in combination with Pinus pumila. Individual, sex, age, seasonal and geographic variation of plumage color is studied on 310 bird skins. Nine plumages are described in detail: juvenile, first winter, first summer, winter and summer plumages of adults (males and females) as well as postjuvenal and postbreeding moults. Seven linear measurements variation are studied in 256 specimens. Data contradicting to the opinion of M.R. Browning (1976, 1988) about belonging of the holotype of sachalinensis Portenko 1960 to the mainland population (and not to the insular one) are given. A conclusion on the validity of the subspecies name given by L.A. Portenko to birds from Sakhalin Isl. is made.
