Optomechanics is a promising technique for a wide range of applications and an intensively studied branch of nanophotonics. The flexibility of optical manipulation can be increased with the help of auxiliary substrates providing additional degrees of freedom. In this paper, we consider optical force acting on a particle near a one-dimensional photonic crystal. The excitation of bulk and surface modes of the crystal occurs due to the near fields of the particle and does not require additional mechanisms. Oblique incidence of a plane wave can lead to the directional excitation of the substrate modes, and therefore, an optical pulling force arises. © 2020 Author(s).
