Immunofluorescent Assay of De Novo Vimentin Expression in Serous Ovarian Cancer Cells as a Potential Predictor of the Efficacy of Platinum-Based Drugs and Taxanes

Аннотация: De novo expression of the mesenchymal protein vimentin in cells expressing epithelial cytokeratinswas quantified by double immunofluorescence staining of serous ovarian cancer samples (n = 56). Themedian value was shown to be 1.6 times higher (p = 0.006) in the group of resistant tumors compared with that of sensitive tumors (disease relapse after chemotherapy with platinum drugs and taxanes for ≤ 6 months and ≥12 months). Conclusions. The level of de novo vimentin expression is a predictor of the efficacy of platinum drugs and taxanes with the calculated specificity and sensitivity of the assay of more than 80% and the cutoff value of 42.5% for sensitive and resistant tumors.
