Аннотация:This article focuses on the French ballade as a forme fixe and a lyricalgenre in Russian and European literatures. After a brief outline of the historyand structure of the French ballade in the country of its origin, I examine itsemergence and trajectory in Russian poetry. The article showcases examples ofRussian ballades ranging from Sumarokov’s and Derzhavin’s in the 18th centuryto Vyacheslav Ivanov’s and Nikolai Gumilev’s in the 20th century, and explorestheir stylistic, thematic, and rhyming features, aiming to dispel the existingmisconceptions about the history of the ballade in Russia and lay the ground forfurther, more nuanced studies. These data can also be used in comprehensiveoverviews of the evolution and transfers of international verse forms.
