Аннотация:A LESSER RIVER BASIN AS A LANDSCAPE UNIT TO MONITOR BIODIVERSITY OF PLANT COMMUNITIES.
The choise of territorial units to assess the species diversity of vegetation was based upon theprinci pie of hierarchial continium. The following system of units was employed: the biotope - the ecotope - the lesser river basin of high order. Under examination was the species diversity of vascular plants, so that to study the forest biotopes of the Tadenka river basin (the Circum - Oka Terrace Reserve). We demonstrated the quantitative and qualitative differences in the species diversity of the ecotopes and biotopes. Having used the direct gradient analysis, we managed to identify the role of the edaphic and succession factors, as well as to reveal the mechanisms sustaining the species diversity. Two parameters were investigated, namely that of species saturation (the number of species per one unit of area) and that of species abundance (the number of species in the biota or in the ecotope). In as much as a lesser river basin embraces the entire set of ecotopes and biotopes of the given landscape, it may serve as the basic unit for assessing and monitoring the plant species diversity. At the same time, the use of a series of hierarchic units is also actual, because it permits to trace the dynamic trends of species diversity, which is important for diversity monitoring
