SUMMARY.
This paper explains briefly importance of knowledge about population structure in wader species as well as the difference between biogeographical populations (AEWA website) and genetic populations (Ти-мофеев-Ресовский и др., 1973). The types of species population structure are listed according to AEWA (website) with original examples. Different approaches for revealing population structure in waders are con-sidered in brief accounting for limitations in use in the CIS.
