Описание:This module provides in-depth study of a number of key theoretical and practical issues in the area of spectroscopic analysis, which complement the core curriculum of the course. Topic areas include the fundamentals of spectroscopic, structural and elemental characterisation, and its application in 2 directions: materials chemistry and forensic analysis. The aim of the module is to ensure that students reinforce their knowledge and can use a wide array of modern spectroscopic and related techniques for the chemical characterisation of a range of materials, as well as methods of structural and elemental analysis. It intends to provide the experience of working with real-life research data relevant to materials characterisation and forensic investigation. Topics related to materials characterisation include: characterisation using NMR and FTIR spectroscopy, diffraction and electron microscopy, relationships between structure and function, crystalline materials, characterisation of active sites. Topics related to forensic chemistry include: examination of fingerprint, analysis of trace evidence (explosives, fibres) and analysis of documents.
