The development of efficient photosensitizers for biophotonics is an important task for contemporary science at the interface of chemistry, biology and medicine. Phthalocyanines (Pcs) are well known photosensitizers, including drugs that have already been used in clinical practice (e.g., Photosens). The introduction of a P(V) atom leads to a significant bathochromic shift of absorbance maximum of Pcs as well as an increase of their solubility due to the appearance of a positive charge and axial ligands. Nevertheless, to the best of our knowledge there is only one example of water soluble P(V) phthalocyanine (PcP) obtained earlier in our group. In this work, different approaches were applied to obtain a series of PcP’s soluble in aqueous media.
