Emerging legal environment and law relations entail the need for coining new terminology. Terms of digital law or new terminology, associated with major shifts in corporate relations can offer instructive examples. These novel English legal terms, reflecting changes in legal paradigms, are promptly adopted by the Russian law. In many cases it has resulted in generating calques, either alien to Russian idiom, or lacking clarity. However, there are translation strategies allowing for a smoother, almost “seamless” adoption of newly coined terminology into legal Russian. Apart from a self-evident aim of securing a better Russian equivalent, incorporating the above said strategies in the Legal translation course is to serve a twofold didactic purpose. It is bound to encourage students in their use of monolingual resources and thus help them grasp the essence of novel law concepts.
