This work examined the occurrence of polymer particles within aquifers at the Zvenigorod Biological Station (Russia). MPs were present in all samples as diverse fibers, films, and fragments of varying sizes, indicative of multiple anthropogenic sources. The lack of microbeads implies secondary microplastic formation by macroplastic degradation. Py-GC-MS identified polystyrene as ubiquitous (100% occurrence) and dominant across sampling sites. Nylon, ABS, PET, PP, PU, and SBR were also identified in select samples.
