Biomass burning considered is one of the most important sources of particulate matter emissions regionally and globally, with a special concern for the northern megacities where the distinct climatological characteristics relate to much fuel consumption and heating system operation. Moscow is the largest northernmost megacity in Europe where gas-fuel centralized heating supply operates, biomass is not used by population for residential heating whereas the features of BB-related light absorption observed in the cold period (Popovicheva et al., 2022). In spring and summer the city affected by agriculture and wildfire smoke, with the biggest impact recorded in August 2010 (Popovicheva et al., 2014). In August of 2022 wildfires covered a significant area of Ryazan forests, around 200 km from Moscow.
