Khvalynian deposits of the northwestern part of the Caspian lowland differ from the older Pleistocene formations of the Caspian. The main reason for this is facies of chocolate clays, which accumulated in the Volga estuary and the northwestern part of the Khvalynian basin between 18-13 cal ka BP. Many researchers have specified the features of the Lower Khvalynian deposits, their distribution, mode of occurrence and origin, but the records on their material composition is not so extensive.
