This research investigates the use of contemporary geoinformation tools to evaluate the susceptibility of mountain roads in Kazakhstan to damage. The study leverages publicly accessible digital elevation model data (FABDEM) to determine spatial terrain factors including slope stability index, topographic wetness index, and similar metrics. Utilizing this data, a GIS initiative was undertaken to create a map of all mountain roads within the area, categorizing road segments by vulnerability (high, medium, or low) based on elements like avalanche danger, susceptibility to mudflows, and erosion rates. Additionally, a focused study on a road segment located near Almaty is explored, demonstrating how meteorological data can be combined with terrain and road design details to predict potentially dangerous zones. These findings highlight the capability of integrated spatial analysis in enabling the early identification and assessment of risks along mountain transportation routes.
