Ag doped oxyfluoride glasses with simple (SiO2-PbF2) and complex (SiO2-AlO1.5-CdF2-PbF2-ZnF2-YbF3) glass host compositions have been prepared with the melt-quenching method [1,2]. Optical properties of the glasses were characterized with the photoluminescence spectroscopy showing the emission and excitation in the ranges from 1.5 to 3.0 eV, and from 2.5 to 4 eV, respectively. The absorption spectroscopy revealed an absorption edge at ~3.4 eV along with the plasmon oscillations of silver nanoparticles in the range from 2.2 to 3.2 eV. The position of the absorption edge was dependent on the glass composition and concentration of silver. Ag K-edge X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) was applied to probing the structure and local surroundings of Ag species in the glasses. The obtained XAS spectra were used for identification of the Ag species and evaluation of its structural parameters in the glasses.
