The report addresses the contemporary Tagalog inventory conveying Polite Imperative meanings. It is shown that the Polite Imperative strategies include grammatical and lexical items, both dedicated and non-dedicate Beside the morphologically dedicated prefixation with the prefix paki- as the marker of Polite Imperative, which is well-described in e.g. Račkov (2001), Kaufman (2009), Klimenko (2020), the following attested inventory will be discussed: a) non- dedicated grammatical strategies conveying politeness through the attenuation of the strength of a command (the causative prefix pa- in stem-based imperative constructions; optative markers sana, nawa in constructions with a full verbal or stem-based imperative); b) a dedicated lexical strategy (pakiusap and the English borrowing please); c) non-dedicated lexical strategies (la(ma)ng ‘only, just’ or muna ‘first, yet, beforehand’ in full verbal and stem-based imperative constructions; mangyari ‘to happen’ in its grammaticalized meaning ‘may be’, with linker, and malamang ‘probably’).d. The survey is largely based on the corpus material from the Leipzig Corpora Collection (2017).
