A study of the spatial and temporal patterns of sedimentary complexes composing the cratons cover and participating in the structures of thrust and folded regions is of great importance for deciphering the geological history of our planet, as well as for solving numerous problems of petroleum geology. The core of these studies is the establishment of the age of sedimentary complexes, the implementation of their regional, interregional and global correlation. The paleomagnetic method can play an important role in solving these tasks. In particular, the data accumulated by now, when studying the paleomagnetism of series of the Ordovician key sections (Moyero, Kulumbe and others) create a firm base for application of the paleomagnetic method for dating and correlation of the Ordovician deposits of the Siberian platform and its disturbed margins. In this report, we demonstrate a case study of Ordovician sedimentary rocks exposed in the middle-lower reaches of the Kotuy River (northern Siberian platform), which represents an impressive example of the successful application of paleomagnetic method to solve important problems of stratigraphy and, accordingly, petroleum geology.
