In the case of magnetically recoverable catalysts, a question arises: Are magnetic nanoparticles only good for sepn. or they can be beneficial for catalytic performance. In this talk we will demonstrate that the iron oxide nanoparticle influence goes beyond magnetic sepn. In particular, we developed magnetic zeolites forming iron oxide nanoparticles (NPs) in the pores of silica gels followed by transformation of silica gels to zeolite ZSM-5. We studied the influence of the silica gel porosity and morphol. as well as the amt. of iron oxide loading on the structure and properties of the resulting magnetic zeolites. The catalysts developed were tested in the methanol to hydrocarbons (MTH) process and compared to a conventional H-ZSM-5. It was demonstrated that magnetic zeolites allow a higher fraction of the C8-C11 hydrocarbons and a lower fraction aroms., allowing better stability towards coking. Doping of magnetic zeolites towards catalysts with a higher stability will be also discussed.
