The goal of this research is to investigate the features of scattered deletion (SD) in Russian taking as an example NPs with dependent infinitives that are split during A’-movement1. We have conducted a syntactical experiment to check the influence of three factors on the acceptability of different discontinuous configurations: type of A’-movement (wh-movement or relativization), wh-word (čej ‘whose’ or kakoj ‘what kind of’) and position of split (before the phrase head, early, or after the head, late). The results show that the split position is only relevant when a constituent undergoes relativization movement meaning that NP-splits do not evince the expected garden path effect.
