The current study is devoted to both theoretical and experimental investigation of sonoactivation of drug-loaded mesoporous silicon nanoparticles (PSi NPs) with the MHz-range ultrasound irradiation (USI) of moderate intensity. The role of two fundamental effects acoustic cavitation and USI-induced heat deposition is taken into account. The experiments on USI-assisted doxorubicin (DOX) release in situ reveal an effective output of the drug from the PSi NPs even at low intensities. This effect is also confirmed by a significant inhibition of cancer cell proliferation in vitro.
