The ‘Kurdish question’ represents a complex international problem which demonstrates consecutive failures of various conflict resolution strategies both at the level of nation-state and international organizations. In the 1980s the Turkish government and the Kurds tried to solve this problem by military means. Since the late 1990s the European Union’s influence spurred both Turkey’s democratization and Kurdish struggle for their political rights. The EU managed to raise international awareness of the ‘Kurdish question’ but did not bring peace to the region. The paper aims to scrutinize the UN, EU and Turkish perspectives on the Kurdish peace process in the historical perspective – from the initial rise of the ‘Kurdish Question’ on the international agenda up to the present day.
