Strong influence of nanocrystalline SnO2 doping with Cr (III) on ammonia sensing is presented. Sensor response changes are related to changes in NH3 molecule oxidation mechanism. On the surface of the pure nanocrytalline SnO2 grains NH3 is oxidized via Mars-van Krevelen mechanism through NOx formation, Cr doping of SnO2 leads to Langmuir-Hinshelwood NH3 oxidation mode and N2O formation.
