In wide gap spherical Couette flow-flow of a viscous incompressible fluid between rotating spherical boundaries- the first instability occurs in appearance of traveling azimuthal waves, which wave numbers can be m=3 or m=4. Selection of one from two possible m during the first instability is under consideration. The case, when the outer sphere was held stationary while the inner sphere rotational speed was increased linearly from a subcritical flow to a supercritical one, is numerically studied.
