The GLCW continues the discussion of the science problems specific to the surface experiments on Galilean satellites started at Europa Lander Workshop in 2009. The Europa Lander Roscosmos mission was planned in parallel with EJSM NASA/ESA mission to the Jupiter system. In 2011 the EJSM was dismantled, the ESA part of the mission becoming the JUICE mission with the emphasis on Ganymede. In the meanwhile the Roscosmos studies of the Europa Lander Mission have shown the incompatibility of both the Europa Lander and a small telecommunication Europa Orbiter with a single Proton launch. In order to optimize expenses, the Ganymede Lander study was initiated, and cooperation/synergy with JUICE Ganymede orbital mission is being discussed between ESA and Roscosmos. The main goal of the GLCW is to discuss the advantages and drawbacks of this transfer from Europa to Ganymede.
