International workshop “The Europa Lander: science goals and experiments” is organized by the Space Research Institute (IKI) of Russian Academy of Sciences, on February 9-13, 2009, in Moscow, Russia. The workshop will last 5 days including the days of arrival/departure and some sightseeing events, and focus on the scientific goals and technical aspects of the project, key issues of Europa science with the special emphasis on astrobiology and requirements to scientific instruments. Current knowledge of Europa environment (interior, surface and exosphere). Results from previous missions (Pioneers, Voyagers, Galileo), and Earth-based observations. Astrobiology vision of Europa. Synergy between Europa Lander and EJSM mission (including possible joint experiments). Orbital constraints, radio relaying options. Scientific payload for Europa Lander: scientific goals, scientific requirements, mass and energy budgets, implementation of instruments, technical aspects. Landing site selection priorities. Europa Lander design, radiation protection issues.
