The 20th edition of the I.S.E.O. Summer School was held from June 15th to June 22nd, 2024 in Iseo, a small city on the shores of Lake Iseo in Northern Italy. The event took place at the 4-star Iseolago Hotel. A total of 80 participants from 32 diverse countries and representing 57 universities across the globe were part of the Summer School program. As per the lecturers, the 2024 session of the Summer School showcased a distinguished group of international economists, which included three Nobel Laureates. The theme for the 2024 edition was “The World Economy’s Shifting Winds: New Challenges, Threats, and Opportunities”. The event featured lectures by seven distinguished experts in international economics: Joshua ANGRIST (Nobel Laureate in Economics 2021, professor of Economics at MIT); Robert ENGLE (Nobel Laureate in Economics 2003, professor of Finance at NYU Stern School of Business and Co-Director of the NYU Stern Volatility); Michael SPENCE (Nobel Laureate in Economics 2001, Professor Emeritus, Stanford Business School and Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford); Beata JAVORCIK (professor of Economics at Oxford University and chief economist at EBRD, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development); Kamiar MOHADDES (professor in Economics & Policy at the University of Cambridge); Elena VERDOLINI (professor of Political Economy at University of Brescia and senior scientist at the European Institute on Economics and the Environment); and Carl FREY (professor of AI & Work at Oxford University). This year, the I.S.E.O. Summer School program introduced a new addition – a poster session where participants could illustrate their findings. The diverse participation of young economists from various countries and different universities added depth to the discussions on the evolving landscape of international economics. The presence of Nobel Laureates Michael Spence and Robert Engle, who wandered through the posters and took the time to listen to participants’ research, further enriched the event.
