  The aim of this workshop is to present and discuss the most recent findings in the use of inorganic ions to enhance the biological response of biomaterials. This workshop will focus on (i) in vitro and in vivo data relating inorganic ion release and biological response, (ii) approaches to control ion release, (iii) methods to measure or estimate the local concentrations of ions. A particular attention will be paid to inorganic bone graft substitutes, because a better understanding of the link between inorganic ion release and biological response would help designing bone graft substitutes with improved properties.
